Auckland Rugby Reps, to go on Tour
VISIT TO BAY OF PLENTY At a meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union, held last evening, Mr. Baxter, secretary of the Bay of Plenty Union, and Air. Smith, president of the Rotorua Union, waited on the meeting with reference to a suggested tour of an Auckland team in the Bay of Plenty district. The chairman explained that Rugby matters in the Bay of Plenty had not been as bright as they might have been. The Auckland Union had always desired to help neighbouring unions, but the question of expense had to be considered. Mr. Frost explained the arrangements made with the New Zealand Union, and said that that body had guaranteed £4O toward the tour. If the tour eventuated the Auckland Union desired to include Thames Valley. The delegates said that the tour would take ten days, and that the motor expenses would amount to £4O. Other expenses would be: Board £l2O, boat fares £24 ss, train fares £2O. If four matches were played the delegates considered the takings would be about £ 50 a match. The chairman said the Auckland Union would expect a return visit from j the Bay of Plenty representatives next season. The delegates said they would be prepared to agree to a gate percentage basis. It was decided to make the trip to the Bay of Plenty this season, at a date to be agreed upon, and to offer the Bay of Plenty Union a third of the gross gate takings in Auckland next season with a minimum of £SO. It was also decided to play a match against Thames Valley on September 3.
It was decided to ask the Match Committee to make arrangements for the Pollard Cup competition from August 6 onwards.
