BURWOOD MURDER
COMMISSIONER’S VISIT WILL NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS INVESTIGATORS’ PERSONNEL Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. TJOLICE COMMISSIONER McA ILVENEY arrived in Christchurch this morning from Wellington. He said that his visit was purely official, and would not answer the question whether the reward in connection with the Burwood murder had been claimed. The visit of Mr. Mcllveney looks significant, in view of the arrest yesterday of Charles William Boakes, a taxi-driver, who was charged with the murder of Gwendoline Scarff at Burwood on June 15. Boakes was remanded till August 4. Five members of the detective force under the control of Inspector A. Cameron, have been conducting investigations in connection with the tragedy. Detective-Sergeant James Bickerdike, whose transfer to Auckland was announced some days prior to the tragedy is one. Others are Detective-Sergeant Young, Detectives Walsh (Wanganui) Jarrold (Wellington), and Laugeson (Christchurch).
