TWO HAMILTON FIRES
DWELLING DESTROYED FAMILY’S HURRIED ESCAPE (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. The Hamilton Fire Brigade had a busy time last night, when it was called upon to respond to two alarms. The first call was received about 7 p.m., when a detached building in Liverpool Street, occupied by Mrs. Goodlittle, was found to be ablaze. The brigade was promptly on the scene, and extinguished the flames after damage had been done to the extent of about £lO. There was no insurance. The second summons was given at 1 a.m., when the brigade, on proceeding to Francis Street, beyond Peachgrove Hoad, Hamilton East, discovered a fire which had a strong hold on a house owned and occupied by Mr. J. E. Hoffman. No water was available, and the firemen could do nothing to quell the flames, which speedily consumed the building. Mr. Hoffman and his family had a narrow escape, having to rush from the house in their night attire. They lost all their effects. The insurance details are not available.
