BREACHES AT TAUPO SUBSTANTIAL FINES <From Our Own Correspondent .) TAUPO, To-day. Charged with various offences against the Ashing regulations 11 persons were substantially fined by Mr. W. G. K. Kenrick, S.M., at Taupo on Wednesday. The prosecutor was Mr. G. F. Yearex, chief ranger of the Department of Internal Affairs. Messrs. J. A. McFarlane, K. Ruddenklau, Tattersall, M. Greenwood, W. F. Pharazyn and Mardell, and Misses K. M. McFarlane and L. Bain were each lined £5 and costs for fishing without licences. H. C. Robjohns, for fishing without a licence, was fined £ 7 and costs. 11l the latter case, the ranger said defendant was asked for his licence, and when he was not observed, took the opportunity to dash away by car instead of admitting that he had no licence. In view of this fact the magistrate imposed the heavier penalty. For obstructing the ranger, L. A. Rogers was fined the maximum penalty, £lO and costs. The magistrate said the offence was a serious one, and the defendant had behaved in a manner that deserved a heavy penalty. The obstruction consisted of making false statements and misleading the ranger in such a manner as to allow other persons in the party who had no licences to escape. _ „ Whetu Tautan was fined £2 and costs for being in possession of a trout less than 12in. in length.
