STOCKBROKER’S DEATH
LATE MR. H. M. SHEPHERD A man well-known in connection with mining matters throughout the Ohinemuri, Thames and Coromandel goldfields, and also in Auckland fire insurance circles, Mr. Henry Medland Shepherd, died at Birkenhead on Tuesday evening at the age of 83. Born in New Plymouth, Air. Shepherd came to Auckland when a lad and for some time followed the occupation of carpenter and builder. He was associated with the erection of batteries in the early days of the Thames goldfield and was one of the original holders in some of the claims that were taken over by the Waihi Goldmining Company. For some time he carried on business as a sharebroker and Lintil a few years ago was a member of the Auckland Stock Exchange. He dealt with fire claims for many years for several insurance companies. He had lived in the Birkenhead district for 33 years and at one time was a member of the Borough Council. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd celebrated their golden wedding on August 22, 1916. Airs. Shepherd died in 1919. Air. Shepherd is survived by seven sons and one daughter. There are 19 grandchildren. The interment took place this afternoon at Birkenhead.
