MOTORING TRAGEDY

HUTT ROAD CRASH ACCUSED BEFORE COURT Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. Arising from the motor tragedy on the Hutt Road on May 24, which resulted in the death of Henry Brian Kenny, service car driver, two men, Harry Stacey and Ernest Edward Harper, were to-day charged in the Supreme Court under the Crimes Act with manslaughter, and further with negligently driving a motor-car. thereby causing the death of Kenny. Mr. Justice Reed is presiding, Mr. Macassey appears for the Crown, Mr. B. J. Dolan for Stacey and Mr. Leicester for Harper. This is the case in which two men, allegedly under the influence of liquor, converted a car to their own use and while speeding down the Hutt Road crashed into the service car coming in from Masterton, killing the driver. Accused appear to differ as to who was driving the car, but Mr. Macassey, in his opening statement, said the case was one of joint adventure. Both accused were in occupation of the car, and both jointly in occupation. Evidence is proceeding along the lines in the lower court.
