THREE PLAYS THE LYCEUM CLUB The Dramatic Circle of the Lyceum Club held an open evening on Monday, when many members and friends were present. Mrs. W. H. Parkes, who wore a handsome gown of crepe lascelles and a rose-coloured shawl, welcomed the. guests on arrival. Mrs. Parkes took the opportunity of welcoming back to the club the Misses Murray, who have just returned from a lengthy tour abroad. The three one-act plays presented were in strong contrast to one another, but each provided amusement for the audience. “The Rest Cure,” an entertaining comedy by Gertrude Jennings, was the story of the vain endeavour of a temperamental writer of vers libre to secure a rest in a nursing home which was anything but restful. Mr. Fred McCallum’s interpretation of the part was admirable, and the ladies who capably filled the cast were Mrs. Scantlebury, Mrs. Hobday, Miss Maida Hooker and Miss J. Gibbons, who was a most realistic “slavey.” J. M. Barrie’s “The Twelve Pound Look” was well carried out by Mrs. Clive Wily, Miss Marie Gaudin and Mr. Len Keven in the principal roles and Mr. Martin as the perfect butler. The third play, “Innocent and Annabel,” by Harold Chapin, was a humorous picture of the difficulties of an Englishwoman married to a Frenchman who was a lionised singer and much given to flattery of his patronesses. Miss Vera Ziman as the wife, Mr. Jack Gordon as the husband were well cast, while Mrs. Verran’s appearance as the “Other Woman” created many laughs. During the evening Mr. Keven rendered two delightful songs. t Among those present were: The Misses Murray, Mrs. Dickenson, Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. C. Palmer, Mrs. J. Prater, Mrs. C. B. Plummer, Mrs. C. Keble, Mrs. G. C. Morris, Mrs. Bullock, Mrs. M. M. McCallum, Mrs. J. F. Montague, Mrs. W. J. Bellingham, Christchurch; Mrs. C. Prime, Mrs H. E. Gillespie, Mrs. C. Montague, Mrs. Walton, Mrs. Griffin, Mrs. Dryden, Mrs. Worrall. Mrs. Garlick, Mrs. Campbell, Miss Eileen Parkes, Miss L. Paletliorpe. Miss J. Gordon, Miss Berta Carr, Miss Gardiner.
