THE G.O.C. BUS SERVICE

COUNCIL TO CONTROL CHANGE-OVER NEXT MONTH THE Auckland City Council is to take over the fleet of G.O.C. buses on August 14. This information was conveyed to a SUN representative by the secretary of the company, Mr. Grey Campbell, last evening. Not a few of the suburban residents have been speculating as to when the change-over would take place, and expressing the hope that an improved timetable would be instituted in lieu of the current one. Then there is the matter of coping more efficiently with the traffic at peak hours. Under present conditions the buses are invariably full when they arrive at Avondale on the inward run, and consequently passengers boarding the vehicles at this suburb more often than not have to play the part of straphangers. Residents in all the suburbs served are looking to the City Council for a general all-round improvement in the service. The extent people of New Lynn rely on the existing bus transport to and from the district was mentioned by Mr. W. L. Titchener at a meeting of the New Lynn Town Board last evening, and on his proposal it was decided to seek definite information from the council regarding their intentions in connection with the G.O.C. service.
