‘SWINGING THE BLUDGEON’

LANG LABOUR PARTY MODERATES SMASHED By Cable.—Press Association—Copyriyllt Reed. 10.50 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The united conference of the Labour Party has not resulted in harmony between the factions in New South Wales being established. The result has been rather to cause definite defections from the Lang Labour Party. Most members of the Mutch party now recognise that they either have to retire from politics or contest the elections as independents. The Hon. .P. P. Loughlin, formerly Deputy-Leader of the Party, says: “It is a case of swinging the industrial bludgeon to smash all persons of moderate views. The adoption of the ‘red’ rule provides a back-door entrance to the Party for Communists.”—-A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Monday. An official statement has been issued by the Conroy faction of the Australian Labour Party. This says that, as the conditions on which the constitutional executive of the Labour Party of New South Wales agreed to participate in the unity conference have been flagrantly broken by the decisions which that conference reached, the Conroy faction intends to continue to function as the constitutional executive of the New South Wales party.—A. and N.Z.
