THE NEW REGENT
“OLD IRONSIDES” Only three more days remain of the mighty “Ironsides” season at t.he new Regent. This mammoth production positively ends its season on Thursday. Record attendances throughout the week, have attested to the stirring and intense attraction of this wondrous picture. No screen production has ever roused audiences to such enthusiasm and excitement as “Old Ironsides” which throughout its 10,000 feet holds one gripped with an absorbing intensity. The story of a country lad shanghaied on to one of the wooden sailing ships of old, and falling in love with the daughter of the owner who is on board, forms a beautiful romance that lightens the thrilling and di'amatic encounters with pirates. The ship is captured after an exciting fight and all on board are captured. The climax is reached when the Government gunboats attack the pirates, in one of the most magnificent and realistic seabattles ever depicted on the screen. Colin Crane, the eminent baritone, continues to receive big applause at both afternoon and evening, performances. “The Stoker,” the dramatic monologue, “The Difference,” and “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp” are three strong numbers, effectively rendered by this popular artist. A particularly humorous comedy introducing Buster Brown and the wonder-dog “Vige” and an interesting Australian Gazette complete a very interesting programme. Eddie Horton at the Wurlitzer and Maurice Guttridge and the new operatic orchestra render a very fine musical programme. Plans for the last three nights are at theatre (phone 46-888).
