NOEL COWARD’S SUCCESS
MASTER PICTURES’ LATEST
The film version of Noel Coward's sensational stage success, 'The Queen Was In the Parlour,” recently acquired for distribution by Master Pictures, was accorded the highest praise by critics when trade-shown at the London Hippodrome on April 29 last. It was produced on the Continent by the famous British director, Graham Cutts, for an English firm, the W. and F. Film Service, Ltd., with an imposing cast of German screen notables. Commenting on the production, the London “Daily Mail” says:—“Miss Liii Damita as the unwilling queen of a rebellious Ruritanian kingdom and Harry Leidtke as her accommodating husband-to-be both played their roles well in i*i the proper Coward spirit, while Rosa Buchards gave a brilliant little study as the queen’s personal attendant. Scenes in Paris and Switzerland lend variety, and the photoplay is excellent.”
The “Daily Chronicle” says:—“Lili Dainita presents a dazzling interpretation of the wayward Nadya, Paul Richter is excellent as Sabien, and the prince of Harry Leidke is a sheer joy. “The Queen Was In the Parlour’’ is an illustration of both perfect acting and perfect casting. These qualities, together with its piquancy, will guarantee for “The Queen Was In the Parlour” the greatest possible popularity.”
