Fruit is meeting with a quiet though steady demand, while vegetables sell freely at prices mostly well within the range of the average housewife. Hothouse grapes were not available this morning, and the Sydney product went up to 22s a case for choicest lots. Apples and pears continue in good demand. Lemons bring higher values than last week. Bananas generally make easy values, the market apparently being amply supplied with well-ripened samples. Onions and pumpkins continue to be a glut on the market. Other vegetables are well supplied, and trices remain practically unchanged. Prices under the hammer at this morning’s auctions ranged as follow ; P RUIT. Apples, Delicious Ss to 10s a case. Stunners 8s to 9s 6d, Doughertys 5s to is 6d, Koine Beauty 7s to Ss, Salome 6s 6d to 7s 6d, Monroes Ss to 9s; cookers poorer grade, 6s to 6s 6d. Pears, best Winter Nehs 103 to 11s a case, Winter Coles 9s to 10s 6d. Vicars 7s to Bs. Tomatoes, hothouse Is to Is 3id a lb. Island, best 10s to 33s a case, rejects 6s to Ss.
