Ferry Steamer Changes. The steamer Ngoiro is to take the place of the Lake Takapuna, while the ferry steamer is laid up for survey.
Beam Wireless.—The new beam wireless service between Britain and India was opened on Sunday.—A. and N.Z.
Massacre Survivor Dead. —The death of Mr. Robert Atkins, a farmer, of Patutahi, is reported from Gisborne. The late Mr. Atkins was a survivor of the Poverty Bay massacre.—Press Association.
Attempted Suicide Charge.—James Corrin. aged 32 years, appeared before justices of the peace in Hamilton today on a charge of attempted suicide by drinking strychnine, and was remanded till Friday.
Nuisance on Train. —On a charge of being found in a drunken condition on the Rotorua-Frankton train, from which the guard ejected him as a nuisance, Thomas Maloney, a worker from Arapuni. was fined 20s and costs at Hamilton to-day.
Russian Unemployed. —The Riga correspondent of the “Daily Mail” reports that the unemployed In Russia total 1.400,000. This i 3 an increase of 40 per cent, since October. The unemployed receive a dole amounting to 7d a week.—A. and N.Z, _
