COMEDY WEEK
AT MAJESTIC .“Comedy Week” at the Majestic is in full swing, and drawing large and delighted audiences. During the screening of Lupino Lane’s comedy there is one long, loud roar of laughter, almost drowning the orchestra with its force. Never has Lupino Lane been funnier, never before has he given so many new gags and stunts. He is without doubt the neatest and cleverest comedian on the screen in short comedies. The third Soccer test match brings forth applause nightly. The arrival of the Canadians, and also a scenic of the Rockies, shown to make the programme, are topical and interesting. Mile. Valeska has arranged an enchanting dance fantasy entitled “Fan Through the Ages,” which shows, in effective settings and charming ballet dancing, the march of the seasons. She herself appears as “Autumn,” and in a wild, spirited dance effectively describes this vivid, colourful season. The chief picture on the programme is “Tell It To the Marines,” a great entertainment in itself, starring Lon Chaney, the famous actor of a “thousand faces” as he really is. This is without doubt one of his finest pictures, and as the hard-boiled “Sergeant O’Hara” he gives a characterisation that will long be remembered. Praise is also due to William Haines, who plays most effectively the part of the raw recruit, who is knocked into shape by the rough but kindly sergeant.
