GOOD EXHIBITION OF REFEREEING
the amount of stoppages in the game for minor offences, which spoiled the play and irritated both spectators and players. It has often been marked in local games, here that most of our referees are over-free with the whistle and lipid up the game unnecessarily. Soccer in other countries is not a tap-ball game for “lounge lizards” or “pink tea hounds.” who confine themselves there to Badminton or Croquet. Mr. Cox gave a similarly good display in the Auckland-Otago game last year, and fully justified the confidence reposed in him by' the New Zealand Council for the final Test. The local outcry’ against his appointment was utterly unwarrantable and quite uncalled for. It did nor in any sense represent the opinion of enlightened ar.d unbiased followers of the game. “PBKSECS.”
