SECONDARY SCHOOLS RUGBY MATCHES

SATURDAY’S GAMES The match between Mount Albert ana Grammar was played at the Auckland Grammar ground. It provided some spectacular passing bouts, and it was only sound defence by each side which kept down the score. In the first quarter Mount Albert attacked but no score resulted. Bush drew first blood for Mount Albert, raising the flags with a free-kick. However, Grammar retaliated, and a passing movement ended in Garlick crossing well out. Half-time came shortly afterwards with the scores: Grammar 3, Mount Albert 3. In the third quarter Grammar gained the lead, Garlick scoring again. The kick failed. At this stage Halls, who was playing a dashing game, collided with another player and had to retire. Bush had another free kick from near half-way, but his kick hit the crossbar. The game ended with the scores: Grammar 6, Mount Albert 3. Garlick, who was the star of the Grammar three-quarter line, was well marked by Campbell. Hodge and Potter also played well for the losers, while Bush gained much ground by good kicking. The referee was Mr. Sutherland. KING’S v. GRAMMAR B King’s met and defeated Grammar B on Grammar’s ground, and although there was a margin of 14 points at the end of the game, the play was always interesting. King's took the lead in the first quarter, Pearson scoring from a lineout. A short time afterwards a bright passing movement ended in Newsome dashing over to score between the posts. Gillett had little difficulty with the kick. In the second quarter J. Gillett added to King's tally by scoring well out. Half-time came with the scores: King’s 11, Grammar B 0.. The third quarter saw no change in the score, although each side was in striking distance at times. Rain fell in the final quarter and the ball be-

came rather heavy. Kenney scored Grammar’s only try, and Gregory converted. King’s returned to the attack, and from a scrum in Grammar’s 25 E. Gillett dived over for Pearson to add the major points. The next scorer was Pearson, and the game ended: King’s 19, Grammar B 5. Referee: Mr. Sutherland. .
