MORGUE FOR HUNTLY
PROVISION NECESSARY A correspondent writes:—“The urgent necessity for a morgue in Huntly is keenly apparent. The present antiquated shed has served its purpose in the past, but is shockingly out of date. The building, which at present does duty for the temporary housing of the dead, is 10ft. long and Bft. wide, with a window at one end. No water is available inside, no slab, nor conveniences of any description should a postmortem examination be necessary. If for no other reason than the health of the community a prompt movement should be made to remedy the existing state of affairs. It may seem strange, but it is certainly a fact, that there is no mortuary building attached to the local hospital either. This was a bad oversight when the institution was erected. For the local publican to have the onus of providing accommodation for the departed is a relic of bygone days, and is not a practice to be encouraged for obvious reasons, and it is hoped a ready remedy will be speedily found to bring the question to a satisfactory conclusion.
