ROYAL WINNER

SIRE’S FAMILY BRED IN THE PURPLE MIGHTY DILLON STRAIN The fashionably-bred trotting- sire Plorizel is still running on his owner’s property at Papatoetoe, and is in the best of health and spirits. Mr. McCardle’s horse is the sire of Floraline, who won the Royal Handicap at Alexandra Park last month, and returned his supporters a royal dividend. Mr. McCardle, who was present on the occasion, was naturally pleased at the success of Florizel’s son. Mr. McCardle’s stallion is excepionally well-bred, being by that great horse Harold Dillon from Floranz, a

mare by Franz out of Wild Cat, and who traces back to the Hambletonian strain on both her sire and dam’s side. A GOOD WINNER Floranz was a good performer on the track, winning among other races the Auckland Cup of 1910, completing the two-mile journey in 4.53 4-5, a record, it is stated, for the old track. The previous year the Wellington trainer, Dan Nyhan, was successful in the Auckland Cup with Havoc, another of Franz’s progeny. THE MIGHTY DOLLARS Harold Dillon, sire of Florizel, is one of the best known sires ever imported into New Zealand, and for five successive seasons was the leading sire in this country. The doings of Harold Dillon’s progeny on the track are well known and all followers of the popular pastime, and the records of his wonderful son. Author Dillon, have made world-wide trotting history. “Like father, like son” and although young at the stud business Author Dillon is on a fair way to emulate the deeds of his illustrious parent. GETTING RESULTS Florizel, considering that he has not been given the best of opportunities to display his abilities as a sire, has begotten some useful performers, including Florent, Wrigley, Single Mint and

the winner already alluded to, Floraline. This quartette is quite capable of keeping Florizel prominently in the public gaze as a sire for a few more seasons. SUCCESSFUL ASSOCIATE It is an interesting fact that reinsman S. Hamilton, who has driven Floraline in his winning engagements, was also behind Floranz, dam of Florizel, the sire of Floraiine, when the Franz mare won the Auckland Cup 17 years ago. But that was not the light harness enthusiast’s first win either, as in 1905 he held the ribbons when Le Rosiei cleaned up the opposition. S. Hamilton is still going strong and will drive many a good winner yet before giving up the game.
