A SUCCESSFUL PERFORMER

PRINCE POINTER'S SPECIAL MISSION WILL BE N.Z. CUP A Southern sportsman, who visited Auckland during the week, informed “Abaydos” that Prince Pointer had benefited greatly by his spell and is again in work under Bob Mills. The son of Logan Pointer —Princess Sherwood showed well on his racing during the season, and when thoroughly wound up again will be one of the best in the land; in fact, it is quite on the cards that Mills’s representative will further reduce his twomile record. DELIVERED THE GOODS R. Mills had a successful season with the speedy Logan Pointer horse, and the pacer collected close on 2,000 sovereigns in stake money for his joint

owners, Messrs. Jack and Stewart. Prince Pointer is a favourite with Auckland light harness enthusiasts, and his best time performance was recorded on Alexandra Park during the Otahuhu spring fixture last November. V/OUND UP THE CLOCK On the opening day Mills’s candidate won the principal event—Jellicoe Handicap—from 108 yards behind, tramping 4.27 from his 4.25 mark, the going being fail'. On the concluding dan the track was very fast and Prince Pointer, from 132 yards behind (4.23), registered his record of 4.22 for two miles, to secure the £2OO attached to second berth. He was defeated by J. T. Paul’s Jewel, who from a 4.32 peg went 4.27 3-5. THE PACER’S MISSION The Southern pacer is not engaged at the Metropolitan meeting next month, but will be given a thorough preparation for the New Zealand Cup in November. In the Dominion’s chief two-mile event last year, Prince Pointer beat all but the winner, Ahuriri, hislime being 4.26 4-5. On the second**day Mills drove him home a winner in the 10furlong heat, which he covered in 2.43. The son of Logan Pointer will in all probability be given a race or two in the short limit events at Greymouth in October, and will then be wound up for the November Cup, in which he promises to play a prominent part.
