Car Hits Tree A motor-car collided with a tree in Victoria Street, Hamilton, yesterday. The car suffered from the smash, but the driver escaped injury. Economising Administration. —A special meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council is to be held for the purpose of discussing the possibilities of reducing the cost of administration. Six Months for Theft—ln the Police Court at Cambridge this morning Kobin Taunton was sentenced to six months’ hard labour for the theft of a bicycle, and to another six months for theft of silver spoons and pliers. Both sentences arc concurrent. Community Singing.—Mr. Dick Henderson, the visiting comedian, will be the song-leader at next Wednesday’s community sing at the Strand Theatre. The Rev. Supremo Court.—Fixtures were arranged yesterday for the, coming Supreme Court sessions by Mr. Justice Herdman. The criminal sessions, which will be presided over by Mr. Justice Stringer, Mr. Justice Herdman and possibly other judges, will commence on Tuesday. Girl Knocked Down. —Through being knocked down by a lorry in Hobson Street about 4 p.m. yesterday, Violet Chidley, of 107 Hobson Street, aged four, was taken to the hospital by the St. John Ambulance, suffering from bead injuries and concussion. She is Progressing favourably. Wilful Damage.—Pilfering and dan* age on the Waikato Trotting Club’s grounds at Claud elands has been serious lately. The architect reported that there was hardly a whole sheet of glass left in the stands. The Police Department is to be asked to exercise vigilance. Car Strikes Lorry—A motor-car ran into the back of an unlighted gig in Broadway, Newmarket, near the corner of Great South Road about 6.30 yeste rday. It is stated that after me collision the horse bolted, throw*wo occupants of the gig to me roadway. A following lorry passed over the two men. fortunately without touching them. They escaped with a ew cu ts and abrasions.
