TWO CRACKS
BOTH GOING WELL LIMERICK AND COMMENDATION When Mr. W. IT. Gaisford, owner of the crack galloper, Commendation, was at Trentham last week, he reported that all was well with his favourite, writes the Wellington correspondent of THE SUN. Mr. Gaisford said the horse had come through the winter well, and he had high hopes of him doing himself full credit on the other side. Mr. Gaisford is not going over to Australia to see the racing, much as he would like to, as he will be busy with shearing just about that time. The horse, of course, will be in charge of George Jones, who is no stranger to Sydney, and L. G. Morris is expected to go over to do the riding for the stable as he has done it here in New Zealand. Opinions differ as to which will prove the better- of the two Limon geldings—Commendation or Limerick—but there is no difference of opinion that everyone who can will be there to see the race. TRAVELLING TOGETHER
The trainer of Commendation’s rival, P. L>. Jones, was at Trentham, and naturally he was asked about Limerick. He said that Limerick was in the best of health, was doing all that was
asked of him and would be better in the spring than he had yet been. He will be sailing on the same boat as Commendation. In his engagements on the other side Limerick will be ridden by the ex-New Zealand horseman, Maurice McCarten. who has had a long and profitable association with F. D. Jones. Jones is a reticent man, but one could not help gathering from his demeanour that he is quietly confident that Limerick will beat Commendation.
