DISTINGUISHED SCOT
LECTURES IN AUCKLAND THE REV. JAS. BARR, M.P. An outstanding man in Scottish public life, the Rev, Jas. Barr, 8.D., Labour member of Parliament for Motherwell, will give a series of lectures in Auckland commencing next Friday. Ilia tour has been arranged by a committee comprising representatives of the Presbyterian Church, the Scottish societies, the New Zealand Labour Party, and the New Zealand Alliance. A keen student of social problems, Mr. Barr has given special attention to education and housing, and this year has introduced the Scottish Home Rule Bill, which is backed, not only by Labour M.P.’s, but some Conservatives of the British House of Commons. Endowed with a sense of humour, and of natural ability, Mr. Barr gives to his lectures a quality and a tone. “Scotland—in Story, Song and Scenery,” is the title of the first lecture to be given in the Remuera Public Library on Friday night, and the last on “Robert Burns” will be given in th Town Hall Concert Chamber on Monday, August 1. On Sunday, Mr. Barr will preach at the Mount Albert Presbyterian Church, at 11 a.m„ and at 7 p.m„ and he will give addresses in the Town Hall at 3 p.m. and the Princess Theatre at 8.15 p.m.
