JOHN BARRYMORE’S FIRST John Barrymore will play his first modern screen role in five years in his next United Artists picture, entitled “The Tempest,” it was announced recently by the star in Los Angeles. Barrymore will not make “Cellini,” as had been announced. “The Tempest” is not based on the Shakespeare play, but on an original story adapted by Fred de Greasac. The story is described as a realistic love drama and it has three male characters. Frank Lloyd, director of “Oliver Twist” and “The Sea Hawk,” will direct the new* Barrymore picture, which will be the star’s second independent production for United Artists. It was Mr. Lloyd who directed Norma Talmadge in “Ashes of Vengeance” and Corinne Griffith in “Black Oxen.”
