DEFICIT OF A MILLION By Cable. — Presa Association.—Copyright MELBOURNE, To-day Replying to a deputation, the Minister of Public Works, said the condition of Victoria’s finances was worse than for 25 years. Although it had been announced that the year’s deficit was £600,000, it would be found when the Budget was submitted to the Assembly that the deficit was over £1,000,000. Losses on soldiers' settlements had not been taken into account in the first estimate. —A. and N.Z.
