DARKNITE GETTING READY
Plucky punters received a rich reward at Addington when Darknite won the Oxford Handicap at Easter. It was not surprising that the son of Ribbonite should start at a long price, nevertheless, the dividend, when announced, came as a great surprise to turfites. Darknite had proved practically a hardy annual and in 1924 and the following year he won a mile heat in the colours of the Auckland sportsman, Mr. Geo. McMillan. In 1926 he became the property of Mr. R. A. Anderson and on five occasions the pacer finished second in saddle events. The present season saw him fail repeatedly, and the public was no doubt getting tired of his misses. Finally, he made amends by spreadeagling a good field as already mentioned and returned Mr. H. W. Aker, who was now his owner, a sensational divvy. Darknite is engaged next month, but it is safe to say he will not be allowed to start at such a price again.
