FOOTWEAR IDEALS
A GREY LYNN ENTERPRISE Just over 20 years ago a young Auckland boot tradesman decided to launch out as a manufacturer on his own. His first workshop was a humble backyard and shed at Grey Lynn. Earnest labour brought its own reward and boot retailers throughout New Zealand sought the ouput of the little factory—an undertaking commenced by Mr. J. Carder, who is now a well-known figure in the footwear trade of this country. Eventually the manufacturer found it necessary to distinguish his wares by the adoption of a trade-mark, which took the appropriate form of “Pedestal.” For many years discriminating buyers have shown a ready preference for “Pedestal” brand boots and shoes. The increasing demand for “Pedestal” brand encouraged Mr. Carder to develop the factory and to establish, in conjunction with Mr. W. Gemmell, as partner, two fine up-to-date shops in Karangahape Road, and at Verona Buildings, where “Pedestal” brand is exclusively retailed in Auckland City, and suburbs, though still popularly sold by leading retailers all over the Dominion.
