AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE
HAWKE’S BAY’S CLAIM Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. As a result of a meeting last week at Hastings, Mr. E. H. Williams, supported by Hav/ke’s Bay M.P.’s, waited as a deputation on the Prime Minister, the Hon. J. G. Coates, and the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. O. J. Hawken, to-day, asking for the recognition of Hawke’s Bay’s claims in respect to the establishment of an Agricultural College, and for legislation providing for the setting up of an advisory board to assist the Government in carrying out its trust. Mr. Williams stressed the point that feeling was very high and that the Bay should receive proper consideration, as it was clear that the testator the late Mr. Josiah Howard, intended the college to be established on his own property. If the estate continued to be worked as a training farm for boys and a portion of the funds was diverted for the use of Palmerston people he thought the agitation would end. The Hon. O. J. Hawken said that the setting up of a board would simplify matters. The Prime Minister agreed, and asked Mr. Hawken to prepare legislation. He promised to indicate in due course if the Bill was to be introduced.
