SLY-GROG SELLERS PAY THE PENALTY
£25 FINE AT WELLINGTON Press Association. AVELLINGTON, To-day. A fine of £25 and costs was imposed by Mr. E. Page, S.M., on Henry Barr Duncan, who admitted sly-grog selling in a shop at Newtown. The police stated that the sales were chiefly after hours and on Sundays. ASHBURTON MAN GAOLED At the Ashburton Police Court this morning Gideon Scott was charged with having sold liquor in a no-licence area, and also with having kept liquor for sale. He was convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on the second charge, the police withdrawing the other. Scott, it was said, had eight previous convictions.
