Here is a picture of the first muster of members of the Auckland Automobile Association for their initial run some 25 years ago. In the centre of the group of cars is Mr. George Henning’s steam car which, as stated at the meeting of the A.A.A. last evening, “used to race away from the flock which took no heed, knowing that it would find the owner further up the road looking for water.” Reading from left to right the names of the motorists are as follow: —the late Mr. W. T. J. Bell, Mrs. de Clive Low, Mrs. Whitson, Mr. Whitson, Mr. and Mrs. George Henning, Mr. Moody, Mrs. Rayner and Mrs. Moody. The gentleman on the extreme right displaying such a keen interest in his “balloon” tyres is Mr. R. Spinks, of Newmarket. The photo was taken at Howick.
