BOBBY JONES, RECORD-BREAKER

Bobby Jones’s remarkable score in the British open golf championship at St. Andrew's the other day is without parallel in the history of the famous English classic of golfdom. The American’s 285 for the four rounds is six strokes better than the championship record of 291, which was established by James Braid at Prestwick in 1904, and equalled by Jones himself at St. Anne’s last year. In registering 68 for the first round, Jones joins a select few who have accomplished this feat in the championship. J. H. Taylor did it at Sandwich in 1904, Ernest Gray in 1908, and last year the American, Hagen, turned in a 68 the first time round.
