Mrs. Collins and Miss Cobb arrived from the South by the Limited this morning. CRUISING CLUB’S BALL AT PT. ERIN PONSONBY FUNCTION The Ponsonby Cruising Club held a very successful aquatic ball in the Point Erin tea kiosk last evening, when a large number or members and thenfriends were present, and spent a gay evening in dancing. The club’s colours, blue and white, appeared in streamers round the room, to which further gaiety was added by a number of flags, balloons, and branches of foliage. Among those present were: Mrs. W. S. Goodison (wife of the commodore of the club), in a black and silver beaded frock of white georgette. Mrs. Luigi Lardelli, white crepe de chine frock, with floral design in orange and black, and orange sash. Mrs. Washer, silver lace over white crepe de chine frock. Mrs. Fred Curran, frock of peach-tinted hand-painted georgette. Mrs. Lumley, hyacinth blue, and silver brocaded crepe de chine. Airs. W. Smith, black crepe faille gown, with Oriental embroidery. Airs. Canavan, frock of lacquer red marocain, with bands of moonlight blue and black chenille. Airs. Alortimer, rose du Barri frock of lame and georgette. Airs. When pressing a frock that needs moistening, it is a good plan to apply the water with a small brush. Shake or comb the brush, and the water will be sprinkled evenly. For dandruff melt a little butter and while still warm rub it well into the head; then wash the hair immediately after. It clears the hair and makes it beautifully soft.
Before using eggs for cake-making place them in cold water for two hours and the cakes will be much lighter.
WEDDING BELLS
DAVIS—GARDNER A wedding of considerable interest was solemnised at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Parnell, at 11.30 a.m. yesterday when Ruth Alary, third daughter of Airs. D. Gardner, of “Trevone,” Takapuna, was married to the Rev. Percy Coleman Davis, vicar of St. George’s Anglican Church, Papatoetoe. The officiating minister was his Grace the Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand, assisted by the Rev. Canon Percival James. The Rev. E. Cliitty presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her brother, Air. R. Gardner, of Rotorua, was gowned in an exquisite model of white crepe de chine and georgette. A handsomely embroidered tulle veil fell gracefully from a chaplet of orange blossoms, and she carried a magnificent bouquet of sweet peas and cyclamens entwined with asparagus fern. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Nell Gardner, sister of the bride, wore a dainty frock of cyclamen crepe de chine and a picturesque crinoline hat with velvet trimmings to tone, and carried a dainty bouquet of lilac sweet peas. Aliss Doris Penney, also a bridesmaid, wore a smart two-toned salmon crepe de chine frock, and dainty crinoline hat to match, and carried a quaint posy of sweet peas. Alary Jones and Eunice Pike, two little tots from the Papatoetoe Orphans’ Home, acted as flower girls, wearing pretty frocks of pale pink crepe de chine and head-dresses of pink tulle and carrying dainty posies of pink and mauve flowers. The Rev. C. B. W. Seton, vicar of Ota-huhu-cum-Panmure, fulfilled the duties of best man, and Air. HE. E. G. Alatthews, of Papatoetoe, acted as groomsman. The many girl friends of the bride had decorated the church witli masses of white flowers tied with satin ribbons. About 400 persons were there to witness the ceremony.
After the ceremony the many guests were received at Bishop’s Court by Airs. Averill and Miss Averill. Mr. and Mrs. Davis left to spend their honeymoon in the North. ' BALL—SQUIRE A very pretty wedding of local interest was solemnised at St. Matthew’s Church, Alorrinsville, on Tuesday when Elsie Alaude, only daughter of Airs. A. AL Squire and the late W. F. Squire, was married to John Clarence, second son of Air. and Airs. J. G. Ball, of Sydenham, Christchurch. The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, Mr. A. Squire, and looked charming in a frock of beautifully embroidered silk marocain, with a dainty posy of orange blossom and gold streamers on the shoulders. Her tulle veil was daintily arranged with a wreath of orange blossoms and she carried an exquisite bouquet of white flowers with gold streamers. Miss Neta Stringer, of Buckland, attended as chief bridesmaid, and another maid was Miss Alarjory Thompson. The bridesmaid wore a charming frock of lemon crepe de chine and georgette, with coffee lace trimmings and a tulle veil caught with rosebuds. She carried a pretty bouquet of mauve flowers. The flower girl looked sweet in a mauve crepe de chine frock and a cream cap. She carried a basket of pink flowers. The bridegroom was attended by Air. W. Hutchinson, of Hamilton, as best man. Airs. J. Cottingham presided at the organ. Mrs. A. M. Squire, mother of the bride, received her guests in a pretty gown of black embossed georgette, with amethyst trimmings, and a black satin bat. She carried a posy of violets and daphne. Airs. Squire, grandmother of the bride, wore a navy blue gaberdine ensemble suit and hat to match. The reception was held at Alatumaoho Hall, which had been prettily decorated by friends of the bride. Among the guests were: Airs. Weir, wearing a black crepe de chine frock. Airs. Penwarden, creme frock of crepe de chine, with coloured lace. Airs. T. O. Stark, saxe blue crepe de chine frock, with gold trimmings. Mrs. Henderson, lemon frock of crepe de chine. Airs. Harbottle, frock of pink brocade and lace. Airs. H. Manuel, pink frock of crepe de chine. Airs. Baker, black silk marocain gown. Airs. Iversen, Royal blue taffeta frock with sequin trimmings. Airs. Try wearing a wide-sleeved wrap—even so light a material as taffeta—on top of the fur coat. It will take the wear, and so save the coat.
