ACTION BY COUNCIL TRACKS MUST BE REPAIRED THREE DAYS TO BEGIN TJNLESS the Takapuna Tramways and Ferry Company, Ltd., begins repairing its tram tracks within throe days, the work will be done by the Takapuna Borough Coucil, and the cost charged to the company. It is thought that the cost will be somewhere between £SOO and £6OO. This morning the committee of the Takapuna Borough Council, consisting of the Mayor. Mr. J. W. Williamson, Councillor J. E. Close, and Councillor A. M. Beaman, waited on the directors of the Tramways and Ferry Company, and pointed out the urgent necessity for repairing the tracks, and the strict obligation of the company to do so forthwith.

After a discussion lasting some hours a basis of understanding was partially arrived at, subject to the consent of the ratepayers of Takapuna. Certain legal aspects have also to be arranged. Some of the ratepayers of Takapuna are under the impression that It is the council’s duty to repair the tram tracks, but this is not so, and the council has urged immediate attention to the rails, some of which in their present state are dangerous The borough engineer, Mr. A. Slinger. and the borough solicitor. Mr. F. I/>wrie. were also present at the conference.
