A BAD START
NEW 2:ealand cricketers MATCH AGAINST ARMY WICKETS FALL CHEAPLY MEW ZEALAND has started poorly in the cricket match il against the Army eleven at Folkestone. The visitors’ first innings yielded 184, the batsmen falling an easy prey to the bowling of Miles and Joy. Merritt, 50 not out, was the only man to make a stand. rnHE pitch was fast. New Zealand A made a bad start and lost three wickets for 68 runs before lunch. Miles was bowling splendidly, and nine wickets were down for 113. Joy and Miles in turn were deadly, the latter taking in one over the wickets of Oliver and Henderson. New Zealand’s fortunes turned with a last-wicket stand, Merritt and Cunningham adding 71 in 40 minutes. Merritt hit two sixes, one live, and two fours.
The Army score was greatly assisted by James missing E. Williams when he was 27. Afterwards he did some powerful driving. The attendance was 1,500. Details:
