OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL
It was decided that works estimated to cost £4,326 10s should be carried out for the relief of unemployment at a special meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening. A loan of £3.500 is to be authorised for the purpose which, with the estimated subsidy of £1,500 from the Government. would be sufficient Married men are to be engaged at the union rate of pay. According to communications received from Mr. E. D. McLennan, f P.. the money should be available almost immediately. A meeting of all districts interested in the Manukau-Tamaki canal is to be called at an early date. Th,e purchasing of a portion of the triangle at the intersection of Great South Road and High Street was left in the hands of the Mayor,
