HOME BUILDING

LECTURE AT Y.M.C.A. Before setting up housekeeping, all young people were urged to consider their income, and the prospects of decreased income, by Mr. W. D. M. Glaister, at the Y.M.C.A. last evening. This was the first of a series of lectures on home-building. Dealing particularly with the financial aspect of the home, Mr. Glaister said that people should never build a house with a view to overcoming financial difficulties by selling it at a profit. The weekly payment had to be estimated, and it was* also necessary to consider rates ancl repairs. Matters of capital expenditure could then be decided on.

Mr. Glaister also spoke on building societies, home-building associations, and the question of leasehold or freehold.
