TESTING VALIDITY OF BASIC-WAGE DECISION

MOVE BY EMPLOYERS ACTION LIKELY IN SYDNEY By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright SYDNEY, Wednesday. The Industrial Commissioner, Mr. A. B. Piddington, unexpectedly countered the submission that the living wage declaration was invalid by re-affirming his declaration of June 27, when, against the view of the representatives of the employers and the employees, he fixed the basic wage at £ 4 5s a week. It is anticipated that the employers will now move in the Full Court for an injunction to restrain the Commission from proceeding further with the declaration, and it is thought that Parliament may have to be called together to pass amending legislation. Mr. Piddington to-day declared a temporary living wage of £ 4 4s a week for adult male employees in rural industries, on the basis of a man and his wife. —A. and N.Z.
