SIR T. MACKENZIE TO OPEN WINTER SHOW
DEPUTY FOR MR. COATES N.Z.-MADE GOODS DISPLAY AWING to pressure of P.arliamentary duties the Prime Minister, Mr. Coates, will not be able to attend the annual Auckland Winter Show. The Hon. Sir Thomas Mackenzie, M.L.C., at the request of the Prime Minister, will officially declare the gathering open to-morrow. Mr. Coates telegraphed to the Auckland committee from Wellington stating that owing to the fact that Parliament was sitting, it would not be possible for either himself or any of his Ministers to be present at the show. He had, therefore, appointed Sir Thomas Mackenzie to be the official representative of the Government. Sir Thomas will arrive in Auckland to-morrow morning and will perform the opening ceremony at the Central Wharf at 2 p.m. An important phase in connection with this year’s show will be the display of New Zealand-made goods. The old gospel of “Buy New Zealand-made Goods” will again be preached at every possible opportunity. Aucklanders will be provided with still another opportunity of seeing what New Zealanders can manufacture in their own country. In numbers 8 and 9 sheds will be housed New Zealand goods. Four sheds altogether will be utilised. The space between them has been roofed in, and an additional shed incidentally provided. The show promises to be one of the largest/Of its kind ever known in Auckland. The entries are every bit as numerous as last year, and are well distributed over the different sections.
The scene in the sheds to-day was a particularly industrious one. The committee is doing everything possible to ensure a successful gathering.
