FANCY DRESS BALL AT GREENHITHE
A fancy dress ball, lield at Greenbitile recently, was a great success, both from a financial point of view and otherwise. Mrs. Eyre, of Greenhithe, acted as judge of the costumes, and acquitted herself of her tremendously difficult task with results that were pleasing to everyone. The prizes were given to Miss Joan Simpson, dressed as a Dresden China Shepherdess; Miss Hill, as a Carnival Pierette, and Miss Phillips, as a Balkan Peasant. The men’s prize went to Mr. Dick Dennis, who was dressed very convincingly as a Viking. Among those present were the following;— Miss Peach, in the garb of Queen Phillipa. Miss Sexton, as a dashing Spanish lady. Miss Grist, as a demure maiden of the Stewart period. Miss E. Coulam, wearing a mid-Vic-torian gown and air. Miss F. Coulam, in a chic red and black pierette suit. Miss Crozier, dressed very cleverly as a Maori woman. Miss J. Hunter, looking alluring in her harem lady’s robes. AN EMERGENCY DISH If an unexpected guest drops in to a meal, try this: Mince about lib. of cooked meat of any kind, put it into a casserole, sprinkle with loz. of flour, salt and pepper, add pint of gravy, cover and cook in a moderate oven for 20 minutes. Remove the lid from the casserole and mark out four hollows in the mince with the back of a tablespoon. Into each of these carefully slip an egg, return the casserole to the oven until the eggs are just set. Serve in the casserole. Note.—A minced lightly fried onion or a tablespoonful of chopped parsley improves the mince. If no gravy is at hand, mix one teaspoonful of meat extract with half pint of water.
