In the insurance section Nationals and New Zealands have slightly improved and frequent sales have taken place in the last-mentioned company. MINING NEWS KURANUI. —For the week ending July 16 the manager reports: The drive east on leader near Shotover shaft in old battery level has been extended eight feet, making a total of 12 feet from crosscut. The leader has opened out to two feet and looks very promising, carrying some nice mineral and silica. Have started two men rising 70 feet east of Whittaker’s shaft on Hunt’s reef. The rise is up seven feet and reef is IS inches wide and is very heavily mineralised and is encased in a nice class of country for carrying gold. So far no gold has 'been
