POLITICAL PARTIES

HISTORY SINCE 1840 An outline of the history of the different political parties in New Zealand from 1840 until the present day and a description of the aims and objects of each party was given by Mr. A. Hall Skelton in the Chamber of Commerce last evening. Mr. A. J. Stallworthy presided. The address was under the auspices of the Auckland Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Liberal Party. Replying to a question, Mr. Hall Skelton said that the platform of the Liberal Party was about identical with that of the Labour Party, apart from the clause in the latter party's platform regarding the socialisation of the means of production, distribution and exchange. The ultimate amalgamation of the two parties was almost inevitable. The speaker and the chairman were accorded hearty votes of thanks.
