WATER SUPPLY SCHEME
MT. WELLINGTON PROPOSAL LOAN TO BE RAISED A proposed water supply scheme for Mount Wellington Road District was considered by members of the board last evening. The consulting engineer, Mr. S. T. Dibble, presented a report showing the necessity for a water supply scheme for the district, which now supported a population of 1,100 people. Ratepayers will be asked eventually to sanction a loan of £16,000, and including interest and sinking fund for the first year, together with provision of meters, £17,500. This would require a special rate of three-eighths of a penny in the £ on the capital of the whole district, and including all land other than non-rateable property. The annual maintenance charges on the water supply would be approximately £475, while the total revenue was estimated at £575. The clerk to the board, Mr. 11. T. Cl. Mcllroy, was empowered to supervise all outside works carried out by the board’s employees, in addition to his ordinary duties. Members complained that certain buses plied in the district without lights at night. It was decided to write to the offending companies protesting against the breach of the bylaws.
