1,500 MEN TO BE IDLE
AUSTRALIAN ENGINEERS FIRM WILL SUSPEND WORK By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Rec. 10.10 a.m. MELBOURNE. To-day. A suspension of business by the Civil Engineering Company will mean that 1,500 men are thrown out of employment. The reason for the suspension, which it is recommended to begin at the end of existing contracts, is the unreasonable claims made by unionists. —A. and N.Z. It was announced yesterday that the managing director of the Civil Engineering Construction Company, one of the largest firms in Australia, has decided to recommend the suspension of the company’s operations when the existing contracts have been finished.
