N.Z. SHEEP-BREEDER’S SUCCESS AT SYDNEY

ROMNEY’S RECORD PRICE MR. WILL RAYNER RETURNS The distinction of securing the Highest price for his Romney rams at the recent Royal Sydney Show was achieved by Mr. W. Rayner, the well-known Wairarapa sheep-breeder, who arrived in Auckland to-day with Mrs. Rayner by the Marama. rpHE price of 105 guineas for the Romney, was the second highest ever received for an English stud ram in Australia. “Yes, I do think it says something for our New Zealand sheep,” Mr. Rayner, who was also successful with hiE Lincoln and Corriedales, modestly ad mitted. New Zealanders, observed Mr. Rayner, did particularly well at the show with their sheep and were able to show the Australians a few points in this respect. Mr. and Mrs. Rayner both found Sydney in particular, and Australia in general, very prosperous. “Nevertheless, I am not so sure that it is not a fictitious prosperity,” said Mr. Rayner. “One never knows when the bubble might break, and when it does I am convinced that the effect will be farreaching.” Mr. and Mrs. Rayner will spend a few days in Auckland before proceeding to the Wairarapa, where the studs of both Mr. Rayner and his brother Bland are among the best and oldestestablished in that district.
