MENIN MEMORIAL

UNVEILING THE GATE A BELGIAN TRIBUTE British Wireless—Press Assn Copyright RUGBY, Sunday. Many thousands of relatives and friends of British soldiers who died on the Meniii Road, Belgium, during the Great War will attend a ceremony at Ypres on Sunday. An impressive memorial, the Menin Gate, which has been erected from designs by Sir Reginald Blomfield, will be unveiled by Field-Marshal Lord Plumer. The gate, which is surmounted by a British lion, looks toward the Ypres salient and is a memorial to the 56,009 officers and men who died there and have no known graves. The Secretary of State for War, Sir L. Worthington Evans, will take part in the ceremony, at which the King of the Belgians will offer his country’s tribute in person.
