The death has occurred of Sir John Garvan, who was formerly chairman of directors of the Commonwealth Bank, aged 54.— A. and N.Z. Sir John J. Garvan was born in 1873 *■ N'ew South Wales. He was for some ume managing director of the Mutual ■L,ife and Citizens’ Assurance Company, j* n d a member r>f the Federal Finance council, and of the Royal Commission on A-ommonwealth Taxation.
