A GREAT RECORD
TESTING ASSN.’S WORK INCREASING PRODUCTION Increased production as a result of systematic herd testing and cull cow elimination is the New Zealand dairyman’s best hope for greater profits. In this direction the New Zealand Cooperative Herd Testing Association has made great progress during the past five years. Commencing operations in 1922 controlling 157 groups testing 6,900 cows, last season 62,268 cows were tested by the association’s officials. The highest testing herd was owned by J. W. Keith, of Wairanga, 12 cows producing an average of 448.66 lb of butter-fat in 290 days. R. Koch, Manawaru, was the owner of a herd of 101 cows which averaged 367.93 lb of butter-fat in 262 days. The association extends it activities to all questions which have as their aim increased production and the improvement of the dairy herds. British Tobacco Dividend.— The British Tobacco Co. (Australia), Ltd., has declared a dividend on preference shares at the rate of 6 per cent, per annum for the quarter ending July 31, payable July 30.
