NINETY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY

MR. J. DICKSON OF BIRKENHEAD Mr James Dickson, of Birkenhead, celebrated his 95th birthday during the week-end. _ Born in Dublin in 1832, Mr. Dickson came to New Zealand in the ship Mary Sheppard in 1866. and soon after arriving in Auckland joined the Customs Department, from which he retired about 20 years ago. At the time of the Thames gold rush he acted as sub-collector, being there for some years. He afterwards held a similar position at Onehunga for 15 years. Since his retirement Mr. Dickson has resided at Birkenhead, and until the last few months has enjoyed good health.
