Murderer’s Outburst
STRANGE COURT SCENE FAREWELL TO WOMAN By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Monday. A dramatic scene, in which the central figures were the murderers and a sobbing woman dressed in black, was enacted in the Court of Criminal Appeal, when the appeals of Frederick Fuller and James Murphy against death sentences for murdering a nightwatchman were dismissed. The Lord Chief Justice was uttering the last words of his judgment when Murphy, pointing to someone in the court, shouted: —“Why didn’t you tell the truth?” He passionately added, “Not guilty!” As the curtain was drawn, he pulled it aside and called, “Good-bye, Rose,” to the woman, who uttered a shrill cry.—A. and N.Z.
