POPULAR GOLFERS After a residence in the district of over 30 years, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Jackson are leaving shortly to take up their residence in Auckland. Mr. Jackson, who is the senior partner in the legal firm of Jackson and Clark, for over 20 years has been actively associated with the Waihi Golf Club, being one of its original founders, holding various offices and at present being president.

On Saturday afternoon members and invited friends met on the links to farewell the departing guests. After a sumptuous afternoon tea, Mr. W. 11. Johnston, vice-president of the club, made a presentation of a case of pipes to Mr. Jackson, and a copper tray to Mrs. Jackson. ITe referred to the many fine qualities of both the recipients. Mr. Jackson suitably responded.

A mixed foursome over nine holes for two silver cups resulted in Mrs. Baker and Mr. A. H. V. Morgan being the winners, with a score of 36i.

On Thursday and Friday a bazaar in aid of the Waihi Federal Band was held, and proved very successful, the takings amounting to approximately £9O. The bazaar was opened by the Mayor, Mr. W. M. Wallnutt.

At Waitekauri on Saturday evening Miss Fielding, who is to be married shortly, was the guest of honour at a social. She was presented with an eight-day clock and a travelling rug.

The Waihi branch of the Workers’ Educational Association continues to make good progress. It now numbers over 100 members.

At the meeting of the Waihi Hospital Board a sub-committee consisting of the chairman, Mr. J. E. Slevin, Mrs. S. F. Williams and the Rev. J. D. McFarlane was set up to assist the medical superintendent, Dr. J. M. Cole, regarding the admission of outside district patients.

The Whangamata-Waihi road continues to find work for Auckland unemployed, and a further contingent of about 20 passed through Waihi by motor-lorry on Saturday.
