A MEAN JOKE

SWEETHEART’S DEATH TELEGRAPHED TO GIRL (Special to THE SUN.) WANGANUI, To-day. What is regarded as a mean attempt at a joke was perpetrated on a Wanganui girl this week by a resident of Christchurch. Her fiance was on a visit to the South, and some one sent her a telegram from the City of the Plains stating that he had passed away. The young woman was put to the expense of sending a telegram to his parents making further inquiries and was overjoyed later in the day to receive a telegram from the young man wanting to know what all the fuss was about and intimating that his reported death was grossly exaggerated.
